House design

September 26th, 2008 -- Posted in Uncategorized, hill to haven | Comments Off

So last weekend, we went to go take a look at our lot (they excavated!) and we also stopped by the model home of the Westminster. This week, Paul and I visited Minto’s Design Centre to start thinking about our colours. We have a lot of choices to make, and the deadline will be our Dec appointment with our designer.

We need to pick cupboards for the kitchen, main bathroom, and ensuite. Then floor for those 3 rooms (ceramic bathrooms, vinyl kitchen floor), tile for those rooms, and countertops for those rooms. For the carpet, we need to pick a colour (and/or upgrade to a nicer carpet). For the living/dinning room, we are hoping to go with hardwood, but we need to pick a stain.

I’m especially keen on getting all the right colours picked out for the kitchen. It’s a really important room in the house, and unlike bathrooms, the accessories don’t feature as prominently, it’s really all about the chosen surfaces.

Back to School!

Last Tuesday, Harmony started grade 5 and she already has tons of homework, poor kid!! She had a very easy transition back to school though, as she is now in the upper half of the same 4/5 “split” class she was in last year, with the same teacher. She is lucky to have all of her friends in her class with her, as all the French Immersion grade 5s are together.

Last Wednesday, we took Avery for his “meet the teacher” appointment at Kindergarten! We brought in his bag full of supplies and chatted with the teacher. Avery sat and played Play-doh for 20 minutes! After that, we saw Harmony on her recess break outside.

Today, Avery climbed up on the big yellow bus for the first time! He has been so excited about going to school and he kept that momentum. When we met him at school getting off, I asked him if he liked the bus ride and he was like “Yah! It was like this…” and started wiggling and shaking around. For a kid who’s always been strapped into a car seat, I can see how the bumpy ride in a huge seat with no belt would be novel (and yet it terrifies me!)!

Here are some pics of my “big kids” (((sniff)))…
