Beacon Hill fire

So Friday night, we were all settled in for Family Movie Night and halfway through The Incredibles when we noticed some lights flickering. This was shortly followed by some popping sounds, loss of power, and the smell of something burning.

Paul investigated while I tried to distract the kids. A neighbour came by to point us in the direction of the very big cloud of black smoke just off the edge of the condo property.

Oh they’re colourful all right!

For those of you with young kids (who are old enough to hold writing implements, that is), there is a contest going on right now to win some Easter chocolate (yum!). Details can be found here.

So I’ve printed out an entry form for each of my munchkins but have made them promise to share with the family if they happen to win the 1kg chocolate bunny.

… which unfortunately was immediately followed by a green pencil crayon tap to Harmony’s forehead, many tears, some parental chewing out, and an eventual preschooler apology. (((sigh)))

Avery’s picture is not complete yet (and knowing him, may never be), so no pic yet of that one. His colour choices were questionable (e.g. a yellow rainbow), but he was making a big effort to stay within the lines which was too cute. He says “scribble scrabbles” are for babies. lol :)

mortgages are scary

Since we’re already responsible for the health and well-being and emotional development of two little individual human beings, you’d think signing a paper at the bank wouldn’t be so nerve-wracking an experience. We’ve already signed marriage certificates and birth certificates, and those are pretty much life-long commitments (yes your kids may move out, but you’re always a parent).

But having enjoyed the freedom of having student loans paid off and being debt-free (for a short while anyways), it does seem a little scary to promise to pay back such a huge amount of money (which will take such a large chunk of our lifetime to do!). Thinking about this kind of stuff has me halfway between feeling accomplished and wanting to run and scream that I want no part in this “adult stuff”.
