precious baby girl

August 11th, 2009 -- Posted in friends, scrappy / stampy | Comments Off

It’s the first birthday of a very sweet little baby girl today, so what better tie to share pics of the cute scrappy & crafty projects she gave me the excuse to make? ;)

Birthday card: cardstock is SU’s Pixie Pink, Pirouette Pink (NLA), & Chocolate Chip. Stamped image is from the Tagger’s Dozen set (NLA), with micro beads for the candle flames. The “cake” is Pixie Pink with inked edges in Whisper White. Rub-on is from the Chit Chat set. Ribbon and clip are from my stash, so I don’t remember who they’re from, sorry. The front of the card is actually mounted to the base using clear photo corners (from CM), so it can be removed without damaging the card.

This was “take 1″ of the card, but the orange was exposed as being the wrong shade as soon as my DH finished installing the dinning room light fixture. :P

I also enjoyed doing a cross-stitched baby birth announcement, which can be seen in my Shadow Boxes & Other projects Gallery.

cute new mommy blinkie style: rounded corners

August 6th, 2009 -- Posted in blinkies & other cuteness | Comments Off

I’m jazzed about a cute new “look” to my big (150×40) blinkies that I’m trying out… I played around with rounding the corners just to give them a softer “edge” and really liked how they turned out. That part was easy actually – the difficult part was moving the lights around to match the rounder path!

I’d actually done rounded corners before on my regular size blinkies (150×20), but it just didn’t thrill me much so I didn’t do many more beyond a small batch of them for Christmas one year (up on this page).

But in the larger size, it is more noticeable, probably because there is actually a straight edge along the sides before it curves. Here’s the end result:

The only set I’ve done so far is these pink ones for mommies expecting in 2010 (January to August) – and they can be found here: Expecting in 2010 – but I’m sure I’ll be whipping up a few more sometime soon.

One of the perks of changing up my style every so often is being able to look at a group of blinkies and know roughly when they are from. Like any type of crafting or design skill, they change so much over the years! Maybe at some point I’ll post my very first blinkie and not be too terribly embarrassed about it. ;)

This one is not a hobby…

I swear. I’m learning to sew for practical purposes only. ;)

And my very first sewing project was to complete the fabric covers for the kids’ toy shelves. I found the material years and years ago and had someone sew one panel for me. And the rest of the fabric got set aside until “later”.

It’s finally “later”.

So looking at the existing panel had me thinking it couldn’t be that difficult. I’ve used the sewing machine before to sew a few scrapbook pages together, so I thought I would try my hand at using it for its’ intended purpose. And I actually sat down and read the manual cover to cover… I still messed things up at first (a lot), but I eventually got the hang of it.

And the final product turned out pretty cute. Not only did I sew the other panel, I used the leftover fabric to make a bunch of ties to hold the curtain out of the way when we didn’t want it hanging over the toy shelves.
