time for of holiday cards

It’s that time of year again – a couple of months that are always busy for me with all sorts of birthdays and gatherings and gift-making and greetings. I always love giving everything a personal touch, so in past years that has led to many home-made gifts and hand-made cards.

This year, I started my Christmas shopping and gifts early, so I already have a little pile started. I love onlne shopping these days since getting out and about can be so difficult and painful, so I’ve jumped at a couple of “free shipping” offers. By the way, I find this Canadian deals blog helpful as a way of finding out about special deals right away.

As for Christmas cards, I’m not planning on doing quite as many by hand this year but you never know… still haven’t settled on a final design, but I’ve done some playing around and this set of 4 cards was the result:

They were fun to make and included a few special embellishments and techniques (like embossing powder, white ink, and ribbon), but instead of keeping them I think I’ll put these 4 up for sale on my design site and keep trying to find the perfect look for my batch of holiday cards going out to close friends and family.

To further get inspired and rev up my creative energy, I also participated in a card challenge and created this card:

The feature I like the most is the unique size of the card, which will still fit in a regular letter-sized envelope to be mailed! So I think my final holiday card design will include the size of this new card, plus some of the design elements of the first cards, plus some new elements created with a couple of new supplies I’ve just ordered.

And those ones I’ll be trying to hold myself back from posting here until I know they’ve hit the mailboxes of those who fit the overlap in the categories of “friends” and “blog readers”. ;)

I’m curious to know other people’s plans with their cards… what do you usually send out? How many cards do you mail out each year? Also, do you send out a family newsletter as well? What about pics of your munchkins?
