pink penguins

I was totally on a penguin kick this year for all the winter birthdays… you’ve already seen my 2 plum penguins birthday cards, so now time to take a peek at my two pink penguin birthday cards…

Cardstock: Pink Pirouette (NLA), Riding Hood Red (NLA), Bashful Blue, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, and white.
Ink: Basic Black for penguin, with Riding Hood Red (NLA) for scarf.
Embellishments: silver brads, chocolate brown ribbon, dry embossed swirl pattern
Stamps: penguin from Punch Pals, flowers from “A Beautiful Thing”.
Punches: scallop circle, scallop edge, 1 & 3/4″ circle
Techniques: paper piercing, inked edges, embossing (using embossing folder)

I find I really like making a couple cards at the same time (with the same theme) because then I can mix and match little pieces to coordinate really well. For example, with these cards, I used the pink and red cardstock papers for different parts of the cards. Then you get to start by creating one design, but your end result is 2 (or more) cards that coordinate but aren’t exactly alike. :)

Believe it or not, I actually have 2 last penguin birthday cards to show you so stay tuned for those, and for other craft projects! :)

    Hey Kris!
What lovely cards! I am so coming over for a lesson on using brads… I haven’t quite figured out how to position them in some of the cards I’ve been designing recently.

Behold my copywriting website. It’s still a work in progress. Any comments very much appreciated.

    *hugs*

Lookin’ good, Val! Added you to my blog roll – best of luck!

Brads are tricky but loads of fun… my usual trick with placement is to place them so it looks as though they are holding the pieces (cardstock, flowers, punched shapes, etc.) together, even if I’m using adhesive. ;)
