Fitness update – end of week 1

So it’s been one week since I started my fitness plan and it’s going well so far…

I’ve already lost a couple pounds, although I think that’s pretty typical for someone just starting to get serious about fitness. But even if I can lose at least one pound a week, that would be great because then I’ll have lost 10 lbs by the time summer comes. 15 would be ideal, because then I would be back down to my pre-pregnancy weight (pre-Avery weight, anyways) and can start working at getting back to my “wedding weight” and then dipping down into those Harmony pounds.

So this week, I’ve done some type of fitness activity 4 days out of 5… Two power walks, one 20-minute session on my Pilates video (holy crap is Pilates ever hard!), and even a 30-minute workout at a gym this morning!

I’ve been doing the research on fitness memberships and it looks like the Ray Friel centre will be where I’ll end up – that’s where I did my workout today. The membership there is not only the most inexpensive, it is the most comprehensive – it includes the weight/cardio rooms, classes, and even aquafit and swimming! They also have a great little childminding room and it is open to older kids as well so I can bring both kids there in the summer if I want to continue working out. Other places had memberships that were about the same price, but either didn’t have childcare (City of Ottawa, Curves) or didn’t have a pool (the Orleans Y, Curves). So Ray Friel is the top choice since they have pretty much have everything I need!

And most importantly, the childminding centre seems really nice, the staff is a regular group (not someone different every day), they’ve been there a while (a few years), it has windows so that you can see inside, etc. I was really nervous about leaving Avery, but decided if I didn’t just suck it up and try it today, how could I expect to start doing it on a weekly basis? You gotta jump in the pool sometime. :P And of course we both did just fine – he had a blast with the different atmosphere, different toys, different people, watching the other kids run around, etc. and I saw him through the windows a couple times and popped in to check on him between my workout and my shower. He was very happy to see me, but doesn’t seem to have separation anxiety or anything, so that is a great combo – now is really an ideal time to get him used to being minded by other people. Anyways, I was really proud of both of us for going and for doing so well. :)
