Stamped cards: Spring chick

May 18th, 2011 -- Posted in scrappy / stampy | 1 Comment »

This little batch of a half-dozen cards for Spring & Easter was a very adorable project that took quite a while to work on because of all the layers and details. I spoke with someone who was new to card-making and she admitted that was something she didn’t do often: use layering as a technique! It’s true, that’s often something that sets apart cards that are distinctive and unique and cards that (sometimes literally!) fall flat.

Although I used 3 of these cards (1 from each matching pair) as Easter cards by placing a greeting inside that was themed along the lines of Bunnies and chocolate, they could also be used as Spring cards… ok, except maybe this third one with eggs on it (super fun to create and one of the central concepts to the card design).

Key materials & techniques used: Stampin’ Up’s Cottage Wall paper pack (I have gotten *so* much millage out of this one pack!!) + paper colours discontinued by SU (Brights) + baby chick stamp hand-trimmed with inked beak (ColorBox’s orange) + paper-piecing + ribbons + buttons + rub-ons + gemstones + glitter brads + flower punched in 3 sizes (new SU/Sizzix die cut that works with my Cuttlebug! love it!) + embossed background paper… so textured and dimensional!!

So, I have mentioned that I gave out 3 of the cards… well what happened to the other 3? They are going up for sale in my card store, of course! Why go and rummage through the “same-as-a-thousand-others” cards at the drugstore when you can give someone you care about a beautiful hand-made card for the same price (and delivered right to your mailbox at that!)?

Hand-Stamped Music Star Birthday Cards

April 7th, 2011 -- Posted in scrappy / stampy | 1 Comment »

These were a really fun project to do…

For my first card order of the year, a friend commissioned a birthday card in blues, browns and greens. Suitable for a male in his 20s… oh a by the way, it’s being sent to a celebrity rock star, no pressure. ;)

Rock star card

She only needed one card but I ended up making two (I often do make more than one at a time, often in pairs since that’s the way an 8 & 1/2 x 11″ page of cardstock evenly divides!). Then she had the choice of which one to opt for. She ended up choosing the guitar, so the star card will be added to my KStar Card Store…

Sympathy Cards: Chocolate, Saffron, & Blush

November 2nd, 2010 -- Posted in scrappy / stampy | Comments Off

Even though I personally did not have a reason at the time to create a couple of sympathy cards (the members of our extended family have been relatively healthy lately, knock wood!), I couldn’t resist trying out the new “Thoughts & Prayers” stamp set I ordered this summer…

I find the tree stamp is just stunning and have incorporated it into other projects as well.

Little details…

Materials & Techniques:
Cardstock: mostly Stampin’ Up in Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Blush Bride, velum, and white.
Inks: Chocolate Chip, Pink Passion.
Stamp Sets: Thoughts & Prayers, Art by Design (brackets).
Embellishments: Felt flowers, buttons, beads, glitter, top clear cover from SU’s “Build-a-Brad” Kit, jumbo brad in Whisper White, So Saffron ribbon from the Fairy Tales set (SU).
Methods: Inked edges, paper piercing, matted cards, flowers with buttons and beads as centers. For the center of the jumbo brad, I added some glue to the cardstock underneath, then sprinkled some glitter into the hole and then placed a clear brad cover on top (like a marble sticker).

As of right now, both cards are still available for sale, so please feel free to visit my Card Store to order them if you are interested (or just e-mail me or comment). :)
