Birthday cards ~ Chocolate, Green, & Purple

November 23rd, 2011 -- Posted in scrappy / stampy | No Comments »

I keep coming back to favourite colours* and embellishments again and again…

These birthday cards I created feature Chocolate Chip card stock – this is one colour I hope Stampin’ Up *never* retires because it’s simply delicious. The card front is then layered with some fresh greens and purples, with a darker purple oval that I think really makes the Birthday greeting “pop”.

Lots of embellishments on these ones: white rub-ons, rhinestones, embossed background, paper piercing in an oval (with a similar stamped “pierced” circle echoed nearby), inked edges, glittery chipboard flowers, and a beautiful satiny ribbon.

Happy Stamping! :) And if you’re looking for holiday greeting cards, don’t forget to swing by my Card Store! :)

Birthday + Avery’s Comments of the Day

So this year’s birthday was actually a good one… maybe it’s a sign this is my year… I may have totally stopped believing in karma and all that stuff, but signs? There may still be something there.

I was really not looking forward to this birthday at all! 30 was fun to look forward to… it was the age I’ve felt all my life! A whole new decade, new hope, new horizon. 31 is… not so hopeful. It has all the “old” with none of the newness or freshness. Worst part is, I have officially become too old for my own precious young mom website. I had to take a bit of forced backseat the past few years anyways because I just couldn’t get to the home office (or even laptop keys!) often enough though the pain, headaches, & mental fog to keep things running smoothly. But now I’ll really have to slink behind the curtain and remain backstage.

And I guess YM is a bit of a microcosm of real life… even though 31 is by no means “elderly”, I had my days in the sun way back when. With the way my health has been looking since the accident, I’m not seeing much partying or adventure in my future. Time to step back and let others star in the show. Which is ok… hard to come to terms with, for many people! But then again, that’s part of why children are around. So long as those children can be recognized for who they are and not taken as just second chances for the parents to do what they never could manage in their own childhoods, everyone can enjoy watching what the next generation accomplishes.

Anyways, enough philosophical babble and I’ll record some little details of my day that I’d like to remember down the way and that I don’t mind sharing with anyone that may still be wandering by…

Thank-You Cards : pink, orange, and brown

July 8th, 2010 -- Posted in scrappy / stampy | Comments Off

While celebrating my (milestone) birthday this year at my mom’s place, I was surprised to find the party grow to way more family members than I’d thought! I’d been told it would just be my own family plus my mother and brother, maybe my grandmother. But then as the party got going, more people started showing up!

It was really touching to have some of my aunts, cousins, and both of my grandmas there! And many of them gave very touching cards and thoughtful gifts (and gift cards, which I’ve really loved shopping with since we’re still really pinching pennies these days at home!). So I started to design a set of Thank you cards to give out to show I appreciated that my family took the time to come celebrate my birthday…

The colours for these two designs were easy to put together because of the patterned cardstock used. It’s from a really cute little pack of glitter paper (purchased at Indigo with one of the gift cards – how appropriate!) so I pulled out some of the pinks, oranges, and browns and went from there. Here are all the specifics:

Materials: I used a dark pink dotted Bazzil texture cardstock as well as a lighter pink one in the classic Bazzil texture. I used Close to Cocoa (paper) and Chocolate Chip (ink) for the browns. I’m fairly sure the base cardstock is Apricot Appeal, a colour I don’t think I’d used before.
Stamp sets: The “Thanks” is from the “Kind Thanks” SU set, the flower and circular design on the card on the right are from “a Beautiful Thing”.
Ink colours: Inks were Pink Passion, Pixie Pink, and Whisper White.
Punches: Scallop circle, new Scallop Edge punch, ribbon slot punch, 1 & 3/8″ Circle and 1″ Circle.
Techniques and Embellishments: adhesive heart crystal, paper piercing, ribbons, rhinestone brad, two-step stamping.

I do have more Thank-You cards to share that I made this spring, but as of this summer I think I’ll be taking a short break from card-making to catch up on some scrapbooking, so stay tuned for pictures of layouts. :)
